About Terry Comeau

I've always been fascinated by the concept of capturing moments in time and space and how photography works in general. Photography is a very relaxing hobby and I invariably enjoy the peace and quiet of nature while I scan around for subjects to tackle.

What I did not anticipate, in photography, was the friendships and personal fulfillment that comes with photographing people. From year to year you see the personal growth, literally and figuratively, of young athletes. You get to witness the sheer joy of young couples making lifelong commitments to each other and experience the great anticipation of their futures together.

I owned my first little point and shoot box-camera when I was about 14 years of age. I still have the foggy, discoloured photos from that camping trip. They weren't much to look at, but they hold very dear memories in their faded colours.

Having graduated from High School and taken a job at the Steel Mill in Selkirk, I blew three quarters of a paycheck on a real SLR camera. The rent was late, but the die was cast, and I have no regrets. I discovered that with the cost of film and processing, the rent was late quite often.

Several years went by and I found myself with a new wife and a new child. And money was tight. One day I walked into a local photo studio and started asking questions about how one could get into wedding photography and I managed to get a tour of the place. A couple of weeks later the proprietor of the studio called me and offered me a job doing wedding photography. He trained me and I ended up photographing around 35 or so weddings for him in the following four years. Sadly, he went out of business and my professional photography career was basically placed on hold.

I still did photography for fun and did some weddings for family and friends. Moving to Portage la Prairie was a good new beginning for us, and I opened up shop here. In the last four years, I've photographed literally hundreds of local kids and their sports teams. And now I am looking forward to photographing weddings again.

I was born in Comeauville, Nova Scotia. I moved to Selkirk, Manitoba, in 1976. My wife and two children, and I, moved to Portage la Prairie in 1998. And we love it here. I look forward to being a part of the community and capturing precious wedding memories for a long time to come.
